Tribute (2nd Aug 1978 – 6th Nov 2010)

Not a standard post today. And I’m doing this more for my own sense of catharsis than anything else.

I got a phone call this morning to let me know that one of the loveliest people I have ever worked with was killed in an accident on Saturday.

JP was just one of those people who you met and just instantly liked. I know sentimentality can provoke hyperbole, but in JP’s case it is true. Everyone who worked with him had nothing but love for him. He was somebody who you just felt warmed by and also protective of.

He also had a great sense of humour. During some of my darkest moments as a postgrad JP would always be able to crack you up in the lab, without even trying to. He just had a natural humour and a personality that made him impossible to ignore and even more impossible to resist.

I’m not going to say anymore on this. I just wanted to pay tribute to a lovely guy, who has gone forever so tragically.

To his family and loved ones I have the deepest sympathy. I am so sorry.
